I've seen some discouraging complaints about the P900. Seems companies do rebates on older models when they're about to release a new one. I'm asking here rather than just waiting to see what happens, because I see there's a $200 rebate right now for the replacement printer (P900), and I'm wondering if I should jump on this deal (if the 3880 won't even be usable for matte printing).Īlso, I'm kind of wondering if Epson is about to come out with new model. If I put a new photo black cartridge in after the current one is empty, I think it will just drain again because of the switch assembly problem. Am I going to run into that problem with the photo black cartridge? If printer won't let me do nozzle check if a magenta is out of ink, would it do the same if photo black is empty? Or maybe if the photo black is not in position to be used at time of nozzle check, printer would not stop me from doing nozzle check? So I'm thinking of keeping the printer and using only for printing on matte paper, especially considering I recently bought a whole set of ink cartridges.īut.when I wanted to do a nozzle check today, the printer wouldn't let me do it until I replaced one of the cartridges that was empty (a magenta one). I see that if I use the matte black ink, I don't get blotches.

I let Photoshop manage the color with the installed profile. I have loaded a great many icc profiles and use them religiously but still the color cast. The color looks great on the screen but on the preview it is a hideous red.

All was great until Installed Windows 10 and the color changed- on both the 2880 and the 3880. I am having a problem with a magenta color cast that is driving me crazy. I ordered a couple of cartridges from B&H, installed one and the printer worked fine except. I thought SOON was not meant to be right this minute but it was. The reason why the printer would not print was that I needed to change the maintenance cartridge. I keep the cleaning cycles to a minimum and have not experienced any need to clean the 3880 but did inadvertently do so until I learned to keep my hands off the menu button on the printer. I have printed about 25 color prints of various sizes on the 3880.

When you say the printer will not print, does it react in any way when you try to make a print? If you have not done so, I would recommend installing Epson Status Monitor (free download from Epson website) which would at least reveal whether your computer is communicating with the printer and may generate an error message which would give you a clue where the trouble is. To guard against drying up, I do use my 3880 for text printing (10 to 20 A4 pages a day) when I am not doing many pictures. One thing with the 3880 is the high ink consumption when changing between matte and photo black. I have found my 3880 works OK even after weeks of inactivity, your print count of 252 (over what period?) does however indicate a very low level of use - maybe a lot of cleaning cycles?. IIRC I have changed the cartridge just once. To be honest I did not realise that so much data was available via the built-in display, but on looking I find that my print count is on 11063 and maintenance cartridge on 64% (I presume this means 64% used, 36% capacity left).
